Empty Feast

Empty Feast: a black-and-white stippled dining scene with a long table crowded by plates, covered dishes, a tiered cake, glasses, and serving vessels, while a hunched figure sits at the far end.

Fineliner Pen on Drawing Paper

Empty Feast is about putting a lot of work into something and still feeling empty. The table is covered with food, but the person sitting there is not enjoying any of it. This was my first time using myself as a reference for a character. I used a fineliner pen with stippling, hatching, and cross-hatching. The background took the longest because I filled almost all of it with dots made using a 0.03 fineliner pen. That slow and tiring process fit the idea behind the piece.
