Coffee Experiment came from an AP Drawing assignment that required us to use coffee as an art material. I treated it like a watercolor wash, letting it create loose areas of value before adding sharper Micron lines over the surface. I was not testing one special property or trying to pretend the material was more difficult than it was. Coffee behaved similarly to watercolor. What interested me was the contrast between a soft wash that was harder to control and the precise pen marks I added afterward. Layering the two let the image move between accident and control, which is a process I continued exploring in other mixed-media work.
