Eyes of Lust began with the first image that came to mind when I thought about lust: repeated eyes fixed on a heart. I kept the heart open-ended because the object of desire could be a person, thing, or idea, and explaining it completely would make the image less useful. I painted the work in oil on stretched canvas, which pushed me away from the pen-and-ink linework I usually relied on. The hardest part was painting the eyes, especially keeping the pupils correctly shaped and positioned so every gaze felt convincing. I wanted the repetition to make desire feel watchful, focused, and impossible to look away from.
