Covetousness is about destroying yourself by constantly reaching for what you do not have. The figure is frail and withering, but instead of paying attention to what is happening to his own body, he keeps reaching toward an object he desires. I left that object unclear because the thing people become consumed by is different for everyone. This was my first time layering Micron pen over watercolor. I used watercolor to establish the larger areas of color and atmosphere, then added controlled pen lines to sharpen the figure and bring out smaller details. The contrast between the loose color and tighter linework fit the conflict in the image: the body is falling apart, but the reaching gesture stays focused.
