Hand of Greed shows greed as something that keeps taking until it destroys the person controlled by it. The eye in the palm keeps the hand alive and aware while the surface rots around it. Gray bands tighten around the wrist and fingers like restraints, making the same hand that reaches for more look trapped and choked. I used my own hand as a reference and painted the piece in watercolor at a larger scale than I had attempted before. Maintaining the anatomy, textures, and smaller details across the 12 × 18-inch surface was the main challenge. This was the first work in my AP investigation of the seven deadly sins, and it established the darker physical symbolism that continued through the series.
