Hidden Life is about how someone can look ordinary on the surface while carrying a beautiful and complicated life underneath. Above the well, the ground is empty and almost unnoticeable. Below it, the tree reveals a hidden space that is much more alive. The hardest part was building the brick well. I had to repeat similar shapes while changing them enough to keep the circular perspective believable as it moved downward. I used stippling, linework, scumbling, and hatching to separate the brick, soil, roots, and tree. The environment acts like a person in the piece: plain from a distance, but impossible to understand if the viewer only looks at the surface.
