Butterfly Ballet Sketch is a small graphite drawing I made for a younger dancer I mentor. I wanted to give her something encouraging, so I combined a ballet pose with butterfly wings using imagination and several photo references. The wings do not have a deep meaning. I just thought they made the pose more interesting. I paid close attention to the dancer's arms because they bend and overlap in an unusual way. I like that I made this for another person instead of for an assignment or competition.
