Face of Envy turns envy into a creature that has been damaged by constantly looking at what other people have. Its three eyes focus on money, time, and love, while wood and chains seal its mouth until it can no longer act outside of what it believes it lacks. I was loosely inspired by the Cuegle from Cantabrian folklore, but I changed the creature to fit my own version of envy. The drawing was much larger than most of my work at the time, so the main challenge was stamina. I had to keep the calligraphy-pen marks consistent across the entire surface without letting the figure lose its structure. I wanted envy to look less like a simple emotion and more like something that physically controls and ruins its host.
