Fingerbones was created during the 2026 KCAI Illustration Pre-College ArtLab for a comic called Deepest Catacombs. The prompt described a clever, sneaky, backstabbing thief and suggested a goblin, but I changed the character into a crow. Crows are intelligent and known for taking things, so the animal already carried part of the personality I needed. I used the sharp beak, dark feathers, black clothing, and thief equipment to keep the design connected to the written role without following the suggested version. The hardest part was the arm anatomy and making the different poses believable. Developing multiple views forced me to think about how the same character stays recognizable when the angle, gesture, and silhouette change.
