Tropical Bird Mug started as a hand-built mug with a flamingo, parrot, and owl around it. While working on the design, I realized a toucan's long beak could become the handle. That made the bird part of how the mug worked instead of just another decoration. I built the birds in raised relief and shaped the toucan beak into a usable handle. After building the mug, I glazed and kiln-fired it.
